About
Lena Friedman
I began my career as a first grade teacher. I realized quickly that I enjoyed using art to teach my students. I found that art encouraged them to be creative and spontaneous, which led them to become more relaxed and open to the process of learning. Most of the students I taught came from challenging backgrounds. They sometimes came to school hungry, distressed, or unfocused. Integrating art into the curriculum helped them find a way to communicate, and express themselves in a positive way.
This work ultimately lead me to become an Art Therapist, I currently provide group and individual one-on-one sessions in New York City.

My specialties are trauma therapy, addiction, eating disorders, grief therapy, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem body issues, and working through creative blocks.

I work with clients using both verbal psychotherapy, and non-verbal methods (art therapy, photo therapy, guided imagery and relaxation techniques, role play, creative writing and video therapy).
I believe in creating an atmosphere of trust first. In order to help an individual begin their journey, it is vital that they feel they can trust me in order to build a Therapeutic Alliance. Whether you prefer working in a group or as an individual, there is no limit to what Psychotherapy can provide. Upon consultation we will talk through whether you would prefer a group or individual session. We will discuss what's the best fit for you right now, given your issues, circumstances, disposition, history, etc.
Trust happens when you feel comfortable which is why, due to the current environment, I am offering free consultations over video in order to determine if working with me would be a good fit to work together and to trust your true expression. All sessions can be done over video, or the phone.
